There is a a time and a season for everything. Vinnie's own words say it all... Remember also that what he shared has to be taken in context within the interview (not the whole interview is shown here obviously). Therefore some of what he said was in reference to when he turned around to walk a different road back in 1998.
"I’m still playing and my passion has just been rekindled but in a different way."
There you go... Total different perspective than before... He's now following a different Way... "it’s about Him and the drums are a vehicle."
"I could have done clinics while I was here and made more money but I said, “No”, because rather that push it and try to do that stuff to make money and get all worked up and woodshed and be this circus monkey"
That my friends speaks sooo loud and clear... "and be this circus monkey"
Not everyone will care about that aspect of being in the Front Line of drumming, but you do get treated like a monkey quite often at that level. And if you can't stand that negative angle for one reason or the other then STOP. That's a load that he doesn't seem to care to carry anymore and I don't blame him one bit for it.
I think that there is plenty of material available out there that Vinnie's played on. He's contributed to the Art of Drumming MORE THAN MOST out there. He doesn't need to make a video to proove it. He doesn't seem to care to be less marketable than, say, a Weckl and that's cool by me. I sure can relate in that regard since I hate to be boxed in by others myself...
